About the Author
Ray Young Bear was born in 1950 on the Meskwaki Settlement in Iowa. He is a member of the Meskwaki Nation, and his work often draws on his experiences as a Native American man growing up in the Midwest. Young Bear has published numerous books of poetry, including "Black Eagle Child: Poems" (1992),"The Rock Thrower" (1997),and "Powwow" (2003). He has also received numerous awards for his work, including the National Book Award for Poetry in 1993.
